We are tempted to believe that the gospel is simply something we believe -- we go through the motions and we have low expectations of an encounter with the living Lord. This is one of the reasons Paul begins the book of Galations in such forthright terms.

We need to take the idea of the pleasure of God and soak in it. When we have a vew of God as stodgy, it is often the barrier to deep Christian devotion. He savors old age and he is the excitement of any age.

We used to believe that science was going to solve all our problems, the economy was always going to boom, and politicians were always honorable. Now people do not trust the military, the politicians, or the scientists. But God is unchanging.
