Trying to gain holiness by following a set of rules just brings legalism and guilt. True holiness comes from the pushing in of the truth of the gospel ever deeper into your soul. This only happens when we receive the Spirit of God and set our minds and hearts on things above.

If we're going to be holy, then we need to face up to who God is. He is a god of love but He's also a god of wrath and He is opposed to evil and injustice, and that is good news. We need to take God seriously at Christmas so that this good news is more than just a sentimental feel-good moment.

Christians are not to be pushovers; Jesus said to turn the other cheek, but He did not say to grin and bear it. The solution is inside—it's determining in the quiet of your soul that if you never get that promotion, what really matters is that you've loved Jesus and your neighbor.
