The Puritans put it best: we are justified by faith alone, but not but the faith that remains alone. Faith must lead to works. Jesus' teaching on this matter is the clearest—he uses the image of a tree and its fruit. If you're really converted, you'll bear the fruit.

What James is saying is that a sure sign of someone who hasn't had the Word implanted in their heart is how they talk. They have a loose tongue, or they talk a good game, or they criticize other people—they haven't bridled their tongue.
