Free Resource | Does the Bible Promote Tolerance or Intolerance?
One group says the Bible is a book about love, mercy, and kindness. They think of the story of the Good Samaritan and of Jesus telling us to turn the other cheek. So how could anyone think the Bible prevents a tolerant society? But for another group, the Bible is far from tolerant. There’s the conquest of Canaan. There’s Elijah killing Baal’s prophets by his own hand. And in the New Testament, Jesus talks often about hell. That’s not tolerant. What then can we say in answer to this question? Worship of self can creep into all aspects of life, including sex. The problem we have is not with sex, the problem is with our worship of God.

The gospel has the power to really change people. Paul himself was running in one direction against Christ and the church, then he met Jesus and was transformed to turn and go in the opposite direction.

The gospel is not new but it is good news. Our job is to guard the deposit and present that message to other people, not to come up with some newfangled idea.

We are looking at rejecting the "Religion of I" and receiving the faith of God. You've got to reject the one and turn and run toward the other.
August 14, 2019
The "Religion of I" is pervasive in our culture. We are all about what we want and what we're going to get. And while that sounds so attractive, it's such a trap. What you need to do to be who you are really meant to be, is to be transformed and put your eyes on Christ.
