March 8, 2021

Paul shows how grateful he is for all that God has done through the Colossians. We shouldn't only think of Paul as a model for us with his forcefullness, but also with the gratitude and care he shows to the people that he's called to serve.

One group says the Bible is a book about love, mercy, and kindness. They think of the story of the Good Samaritan and of Jesus telling us to turn the other cheek. So how could anyone think the Bible prevents a tolerant society? But for another group, the Bible is far from tolerant. There’s the conquest of Canaan. There’s Elijah killing Baal’s prophets by his own hand. And in the New Testament, Jesus talks often about hell. That’s not tolerant. What then can we say in answer to this question? To reach the country, we must reform the church. To reform the church, we must renew families. To renew families, we must revitalize marriages. Would you make a commitment to renew your mariage?

The story of Nehemiah isn't just about the physical building of walls, it's about spiritual rebuilding. He talks about how our hearts need to be put right—which is both challenging and encouraging.

We continue looking at our attitude toward church and those in it. How we feel about the people is a reflection of how we feel about God. It is so important that when we love Christ, we love His people.

We think of joy as something to pursue, but you'll never find it that way. The only way to find joy is to seek God. Joy is a fruit of the spirit that comes when we seek Christlikeness and holiness.

Many people are feeling weary today and are tired of dealing with crises. Nehemiah and his fellow Israelites were facing a series of attacks that were impinging on their ability to keep going. Nehemiah shows us how to deal with crises by centering on God.

It is sometimes said that Bible believers are not very compassionate or merciful, and yet if we love God, we must love our neighbor. Nehemiah provides a great example of how Christ transforms individuals and communities to have mercy and compassion on those around them.
