Trash Talking

December 16, 2009
Paul writes that professing to wise they became fools. A demonstration of this can be seen at the summit on global climate change which is being derailed not just by science but, especally greed, ideology and politics. Likewise the worldly wisdom from the advocates of forced recycling who would save the Earth that they worship yet are doing more harm to the environment than good. Guest host Dave Buehner answers the fool in his folly about climate and trash.

Should We Sign It? 250,000+ Christians, Catholics, etc. have signed the Manhattan Declaration thus far, a statement put together by conservatives to address the problems of abortion, homosexual, polyamory, and attacks on religious liberty. Kevin Swanson talks to the pros and cons of the document, but then asks the questions, "Have they addressed the fundamental issues, and what will all of this accomplish for us?"

A Net Sum Faith Yes, 40% of children are born without fathers up from 6% in 1960, and 95% of Americans confess to pre-marital sex. But the good news? Church attendance is as high as ever! Much of what is put forward as church and praise and worship and religiosity is a waste of time at best, and at worst, a stink to high heaven. What's the net sum that God is looking for in our lives, our worship, and our churches? How would you measure the effectiveness of a church, of a faith? Here, Chris Ortiz from Chalcedon.edu talks takes aim at the Dualism that is killing the evangelical and reformed churches in America. Is it time to rebuild the Christian faith from the bottom up?

Economic Readjustment We don't do windows, and we don't do the future. But we do work our Plan A, Plan B, and Plan C, while trusting God for the outcome. With inevitable economic readjustments coming within the next generation, how do we prepare our children for these adjustments and how do we make it through the transition? These important questions are addressed with Doug Tjaden, author of "Traditions of Men," in a sensible and careful way on this edition of Generations.

Mr. Ostrich Meets Chicken Little Many Americans have the premonition that something really bad is about to happen. It's hard to think that spending yourself into debt and bankruptcy, and then spending yourself out of bankrutpcy with more debt is going to result in anything but utter catastrophe. But there are two ways to deal with the WCS – the Ostrich way and Chicken Little's approach. Kevin Swanson interviews Brad Hamill from the Hamill Economic Update on the present economic conditions, the possibilities of an economic depression, and how to prepare for it now.

Amazing things are happening right now, just within the last 15 years. Cumulatively, we are witnessing the corruption of science. The same flimsy system of dating used in determining the age of fossils is dragged into dating ice cores to "prove" global warming. But over in Washington, we are spending ourselves out of debt, with the largest deficits we've ever seen as a nation. With commercial real estate in decline, and the second wave of ARM's resetting, it’s not looking to good for the "recovery." Hang on folks! We have another dip on this rollercoaster. And some of us wonder if this one could fling us off the rails! Kevin Swanson points out the concomitant breakdown of science, economic systems, and political systems in this segment of Generations. Should you abandon God's basic principles in the way you educate a populace, you will see the unraveling of nations.

Throw Government Money at It After 10 years of massive increases in government spending on education in England, it appears that there was no perceptible improvement in the academic performance of the students. Our country has seen education spending-per-student increase between 200 and 300%, adjusted for inflation since 1960, and results are dismal. In per student costs America spends more than all other nation in the world for its education system, yet lags behind other developed nations in reading, writing, and math. Kevin Swanson contrasts the secularist, godless model of education with the basic Christian principles concerning education, based in Scripture.

Reintegrating the Generations After 40-50 years of generational severance, while government social security programs enabled "independence" for retirees, things are starting to change now. The number of parents living with their adult children has risen 67% in just the last seven years. As economies fail, the social security fund empties out, and state welfare systems disappoint, Christian families will do what they've always done. They'll take care of their own elderly parents. This renewal of relational living is already coming back. Kevin Swanson interviews James Mill on the transitions, the challenges, and the blessings of bringing an ailing mother-in-law into the home.

When Men Face Sexual Temptation Tiger Woods. John Edwards, Ted Haggard. David Letterman. These men are known for a lot of things. They accomplished a good deal in their lives. But how will they be remembered by hundreds of millions of people? Some things that men do will tarnish their reputations forever. Some actions are more permanent. . . way more permanent. In the words of Proverbs 7, "She has cast down many wounded: yea, many strong men have been slain by her. Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death." How many times has this been repeated in the history of the world? Thousands of times. . . every day.

High Tech Cannibalism Parents selling children into adoptions. Kidnappers grabbing children for body parts. From nations where the Gospel has hardly penetrated we hear stories that plumb the depths of human depravity. Unless otherwise informed, unwary westerners may back into some of the worst crimes going on in the world today. Brent Hample, president of India Partners speaks first hand concerning what he has witnessed in the dark land of India. Important issues discussed here, and vision imparted for taking the transforming Gospel of Jesus Christ to a dark land. (But some content not for small children.)

Putting Families Back Together Generally, dysfunctionality breeds more dysfunctionality, and the family on a macro scale in America is soon to be no more. But occasionally families are salvaged, lives are put back together by the grace of God. Kevin Swanson interviews one family from a farm out in the middle of Missouri, that is doing what it can to train families in the principles of God's Word.
