The World Is Better Than Ever - Why Are We Miserable?

March 20, 2018

The great philosophers of our day are asking the question: if the world is better than ever before with all of its technology and proud empires, why are we so miserable? Man is still pretending to be optimistic, but it is a fraud. We take up an article by Andrew Sullivan in New York Magazine. Man is more dehumanized than ever in the humanistic age. What gives? Has science saved us or is it destroying us?

Madeline L’Engle’s “A Wrinkle in Time” represented a breakthrough for children’s literature in 1961, introducing pantheism, mediums, and witchcraft to kids. However, the movie edition was a disappointment to Christians, since Hollywood chose to leave Christ out of the pantheon of the gods. We take a look at the cheap new age cliches used in these movies, and challenge Christians to get a clue and a worldview.

Ireland is the last pro-life country in the Western world. But now, this country is turning pro-abortion on national polls after 1,500 years of Patrick’s influence. What would Patrick think? That's a good question to ask on St. Patrick’s Day 2018. It’s the younger generation that is far more in favor of abortion, and we suggest three reasons why - An evolutionary mindset, a bad example from the previous generation, and Game of Thrones.

Public school students emptied out of the classrooms and rushed out on to the streets protesting gun violence, and calling for gun control. Youth empowerment is a scary thing, and marks something of the judgment of God on a nation (cf. Isaiah 3:4-6). We discuss the importance of honoring parents for the building of culture, that things may go well with us in the land.

Recent articles from Business Insider and Time Magazine keep up the questioning on the college rip-off.  Is college a waste of money, generally? College loans hit $1.5 trillion last year, an increase of 250% since the last recession in 2008.  We compare to Swiss vocational schools and mentorships which have yielded a youth unemploymentrate of only 3%.  But then again, colleges in American have become the most powerful and virulent, Anti-God, Anti-Christian institution in America.  What should Christians be looking for, when it comes to a college education?

We take a look at Babylon Bee and the Christian use of satire on this edition of the program. Can you overuse satire when mocking aspects of the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ? What about the use of sarcasm or attack humor in the home? Will the use of satire strengthen the fear of God or weaken it in your life? These are important and intensely relevant questions for every Christian.

We search for Christian colleges around the country where there is no compromise, and where there is opportunities for real discipleship.   Kevin Swanson interviews Dr. Ben Merkle from New St. Andrews College, and Dr. Paul Michael Raymond with the New Geneva Academy. How does a Christian college avoid the compromises of Harvard, Yale, and Princeton Universities sliding from Christian orthodoxy to rank secularist?

The Marine Corps has incorporated the first 40 females into combat training, a first in American history. We take a look at the resolutions opposing women in combat from the Southern Baptists, the PCA, the OPC, the RPCNA, and other conservative denominations. Then, we interact with a CNN article which draws out a list of the impossible expectations a feministic, sinful society places upon when in our day. We contrast this burden with Jesus’s burden which is light and easy in comparison.

Kevin Swanson walks through the process whereby the worst possible vices are made socially acceptable over a period of 70 years. Beginning with Alfred Hitchcock’s Rope in 1948, the complete debauchment of the nation was finally done by 2018. How do Christians keep themselves away from the frogs in the slowly boiling water? And, why was Governor Huckabee kicked off the Country Music Association Foundation Board? The trajectory of the Country Top 40 Stations in America stayed on a debauched trajectory for 60 years. Art is trajectory because it reflects the hearts of those who make it.

European nations like Italy and France are concerned that the Muslims are moving in and taking over. What they don’t realize is that the birth rate for Islamic nations in the Middle East and North Africa are birth imploding too, big time. Will the Christian worldview win out in the end, after all? We also discuss the worthless fights over race and the worldview of racism.

An American pastor was arrested and charged when he told a young woman at an abortion clinic that she was dead in her trespasses and sins. A mother in England is willing to go to prison to defend her rights to homeschool her children. Why are there so few examples of courage in the day in which we live? For what principle might you be willing to go to prison? Is it worth it to fight the petty tyrants down? We provide a biblical view of the struggle for liberty against the dictates of tyrants.
