Rampage in Colorado - Fantasy or Reality?

July 23, 2012
Colorado suffers the worst mass shooting in America's history on Thursday night at the midnight showing of the Batman movie, "The Dark Knight Rises." This one hits close to home. Christian friends, homeschool friends were in that theater that night. Others almost went to the theater, but decided not to at the last minute. What are the lessons to learn here? What are the connections between the murders and the movie? Why does the accused shooter keep referring to himself as "The Joker?" When brilliant, intelligent men lose track between fantasy and reality, something terrible usually happens. . . Man turns to autonomy. He becomes a law to himself.

Some ordinary Christian homeschool dad winds up hopelessly hooked on cocaine. In this riveting edition of Generations, Kevin Swanson draws from a story that could involve any one of us. Do bars represent a biblical world and life view? Why or why not? Some of the root sins relating to addictions are addressed here. Where things begin to fall apart in the minds of a lot of guys is how they define 'taking a break.' They don't start with God's definition of rest and relaxation.

It's tough enough homeschooling a household of six or eight or ten children. But what happens when crisis hits a family? Kevin Swanson interviews Tracy Klicka on the Homeschool Foundation and the thousands of family assisted by an all-private, charitable fund for homeschooling parents facing crises of different sorts. There is nothing more encouraging than to see the body of Christ across the United States pull together and help one another in meaningful ways! Also, you don't want to miss Chris Arne's powerful story of how God provided for the family when they went through a sudden, heart-wrenching tragedy.

The Bill of Rights has no enumerated right to privacy, and it’s a good thing too—Big Brother is working overtime to conceive of every possible manner of invading your privacy. Citing an article from infowars.com, Dave Buehner and Steve Vaughn discuss our ever-growing tyranny’s technology, morality (or lack thereof), and threats. Information is power, and the government of the USSA wants what belongs to God. After all, He already knows everything about you, so why shouldn’t they? However, God is not telling the tyrants about you, and they are not listening to Him anyways.

Can you go to jail for doing home church? Michael Salman, an Arizona man, has been sentenced to two months in jail and $12,000 in fines for doing what the disciples did—hosting a church meeting in his home. The authorities claim that this is not religious persecution but public safety. If only he was doing something safe—like hosting a poker game—he wouldn’t have gotten in trouble. Dave Buehner and Steve Vaughn, filling in for Kevin Swanson, discuss the “regulation principle of worship”—that is, given the chance, the state will always regulate.

Now, the PCUSA has approved resolutions to oppose the Book of Proverbs and the Biblical family. The denomination has taken a strong position against spanking. Kevin Swanson and Geoff Botkin discuss the rising persecution and the marginalization of Christians in American society. Are Christian families forced into the nooks and crannies of society now? Are they having to move into rural areas? How do we stay on track with a vision for "The Second Mayflower"? Huge changes are happening right now. How to Christian families survive in this milieu?

Why is it cool to mock homeschooling moms who wear jean jumpers? Why do our homeschooling teens strive so hard to be “cool” and fit in with the pop culture? Kevin Swanson interacts with a YouTube video creation that encourages academic pride and discourages parental and sibling relationships in favor of whatever the pop culture considers “cool.” Are kids and parents really aware of the zeitgeist and the cultural emanations associated with it?

Here is an unusual, wonderful, and powerful story of how God saved a young man—a gang member. It is the altogether-too-familiar story of the fatherless street boy wandering into the life of the gang, eventually being convicted of attempted murder, and getting locked up in a maximum-security prison in California. But in this story a police officer took it upon himself to mentor this lost young teen over a period of six years. God radically changed this boy’s life! Here is the story of the power of mentorship and the power of the Gospel. It is the story of Lalo Guenther and Kevin LaChapelle.

Only 29% of Americans believe in the public schools now, down from 58% in 1973! Confidence in America's largest institutions is dropping steadily, decade by decade, generation by generation, portending the end of an empire. . .the end of an era. The only hope Americans have now is in technology, but this too is about to fail us. Yet, there is still a remnant that has solid hope for the future. The rest do not. The cultural analysis in this program is CRITICAL for all of the "sons of Issachar" who will "understand the times."

Why are we facing the ever-expanding socialization of medicine in America? Could it have something to do with the fact that the average American church’s contribution to the diaconate is a negligible proportion of the church budget? Kevin Swanson interviews Scott Brown, director of the National Center for Family-Integrated Churches, on the rise of socialism and the failure of the church in 21st century America.

Only 25 feedlots provide 48% of America's meat. The centralization of agriculture does not bode well for the future of food in America. But how does a family make it with the family farm in the 21st century, against the debt-based, subsidized system? The good news is that there are creative solutions THAT ARE WORKING! Kevin Swanson interviews Robert Bruce Davis from Agstrong.com on his vision for encouraging family farms in America. Good, solid practical advice for families who wish to build family economies, here.
