Idol-Manufacturing Centers of the Human Heart

April 7, 2016
There are a lot of idols stacked on “god shelves” in our homes. There’s the idol of peace and quiet. There is the idol of good kids, and the idol of a clean home—not to mention the idols of sports, materials, food . . . and on and on it goes. Kevin Swanson interviews Elyse Fitzpatrick on how to identify idols in the heart and deal with them.

This program includes:

1. The World View in Five Minutes with Adam McManus (Parent Television Counsel Rejects TV Ratings, Daleiden’s Home Raided for Pro-Life Film Footage, Fifteen-Year-Old Escapes Kidnappers in Pakistan)

“When you’re looking for real-life accounts of 21st Century believers whose lives are literally at stake for their beliefs, it demands the credibility of a man who has the smell of the front lines of the battlefield on his clothes because he was there yesterday and will be back there tomorrow. I’m proud to say my friend Tom Doyle is that man,” wrote Christian author Jerry Jenkins. Could you retain your Christian faith even if it meant losing your life? Guest host Adam McManus [www.AdamMcManus.net] interviewed Tom Doyle, Middle East missionary and author of Killing Christians: Living the faith Where It’s Not Safe to Believe. [http://www.killingchristiansbook.com/] You’ll be inspired as Doyle takes you to the secret meetings, the torture rooms, the grim prisons, and even the executions that are the “calling” of countless Muslims-turned-Christians. The depth of oppression Jesus followers suffer is unimaginable to most Western Christians. Yet, it is an everyday reality for those who choose faith over survival in Syria, Iran, Egypt, Lebanon, and other countries hostile to the Gospel of Christ. Join 16,000 Christians who pray every night at 8:38 p.m. for God to give our persecuted brothers and sisters in Christ the strength and the courage to endure their trials. Like the Facebook page which points to the power of Romans 8:38 -- https://www.facebook.com/8thirty8 -- that nothing can separate us from the love of God. This program includes: 1. The World View in Five Minutes with Adam McManus (Chinese Claim to Have Perfected Cloning; The Underground Church in Iran Growing Exponentially; Ted Cruz Wins Wisconsin) 2. There are thousands of ways in which man-centered religion creeps up on us in modern America. Do you attend an “It’s All About Me” church, or are you part of the Christian faith? One church promises a money-back guarantee on tithes within 90 days. Another church doesn’t want to talk about hell and repentance—it’s just too negative and doesn’t make man feel very good about himself. This program includes: 1. The World View in Five Minutes with Adam McManus (Ted Cruz Takes North Dakota and Colorado, God’s Not Dead 2 Opens Strong, United Nations Promoting Aberrant Sexuality with Kids) 2. Why should a Los Angeles woman get 14 years of prison time for abandoning a one-day-old child, when she could have willfully killed the baby the day before and received state funding for her abortion? We take a look at Donald Trump’s suggestion (and subsequent retraction) about prosecuting women for having abortions. Also, we challenge Christians to be consistent on the 6th, 7th, and 8th commandments, especially Christians who support communism. This program includes: 1. The World View in Five Minutes (Franklin Graham in Sacramento, Governor of Tennessee Opposes the Bible, Mississippi’s Governor Noncommittal on Religious Liberty Bill, Illinois Bed and Breakfast Fined $80,000 for Not Embracing Homosexuality) 2. Betrayal has become the name of the game for Christians who want to retain freedom of religion and freedom of commerce and contract in this country. Those who stand for principle and freedom no doubt will remember the names of Mike Pence and Nathan Deal for generations to come. But what should Christians do in the face of increased persecution in the workplace, the marketplace, and the church? Get louder. Follow through on the advice of Richard Wurmbrand. In the Romanian prisons, he says, they made a deal. We preached, and they beat us. American icons, including Disney, the NBA, and the NFL, are turning on Christians now. What do Christians have to do with these icons? What accord has Christ with Belial? Or what agreement has the temple of God with idols? We grapple with these questions on this edition of Generations. This program includes: 1. The World View in Five Minutes with Adam McManus (Florida Is Defunding Planned Parenthood, FDA Approves New RU-486 Drug, Descendant of Muhammad Becomes a Christian!) 2. A recent World Bank report warns that millennials won’t be able to get a “decent job.” Also, a USA Today article says that millennials will have to save $2.5 million (or $2,000 per month) to maintain the same standard of living that their baby boomer parents enjoyed. What gives? We get into the warp and woof of the family economy and mentorship for our boys. Here’s one story of how a father mentored his 10-year-old and 14-year-old boys to where they could pull in $70,000 per year. This program includes: 1. The World View in Five Minutes (Utah Abortions Must Use Painkiller for Babies, GOP Unity Fading Fast, Louisiana Reverses on Religious Liberty) 2. Generations with Kevin Swanson

We take a look at the increased reports of sexual harassment of women in the workplace, applying some biblical definitions and principles to it. Women (25-54 years of age) participating in the workforce is up from 20% to 74%. Meanwhile, men are disappearing from the workforce, dropping off from 98% to 88% since 1960. Also, 64% of kids are latchkey. These are huge social shifts, and the consequences are obvious. We contrast the Apostle Paul with Gloria Steinem’s and Betty Freidan’s writings and find a bit of a difference. Then we take a look at history—how the family and the family economy were destroyed through socio-economic shifts in the 19th and 20th centuries. We tie in the wisdom provided by Christian theologians from previous centuries, and then we suggest reviving the family economy in the 21st century. This program includes: 1. The World View in Five Minutes with Adam McManus (NYC and San Francisco Banning Travel to North Carolina, UK Student Expelled for Christian Stance on Homosexuality, Governor Scott Walker Endorses Ted Cruz) 2. We take a look at the rise in comprehensive sex education and the weak attempt to bring abstinence sex education into the public schools. A right perspective of the uses of the law of God will help us understand why pure moralism in the public schools, paid for by $1 billion of tax monies, won’t fix the problem. We suggest something better: parents teaching Proverbs 1:7, 5, and 7, as well as the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This program includes: 1. The World View in Five Minutes with Adam McManus (Governor Nathan Deal Caves In to Persecute Christians in Georgia, ACLU Sues North Carolina, ISIS Loses Ground in Syria) 2. Georgia’s Republican Governor Nathan Deal says that Jesus wouldn’t discriminate against homosexuals when it comes to officiating homosexual weddings. The Religious Liberty bill in Georgia is dying the slow death of a thousand qualifications, a harbinger of what is to come across the country. We take a look at the corporate bullies that threaten to boycott the State of Georgia if it doesn’t force pastors to perform homosexual weddings. This program includes: 1. The World View in Five Minutes (San Francisco Bans Travel to North Carolina, Massive Massacre of Christians in Pakistan on Easter, Bernie Sanders Wins Three More States) 2. So you thought the 1960s were bad? The percentage of Americans who have “ever tried” marijuana has risen from 4% to 40% since 1969. In the 1960s, Francis Schaeffer talked about the escape from reality and the crossing over of the line of despair. The crossover is almost complete now. The use of mind-altering drugs among Americans (either on the street or over-the-counter) is on the increase. What does this mean for the country? People live out their world views, so what is that worldview? This program includes: 1. The World View in Five Minutes with Adam McManus (Georgia Governor Waffling on Religious Liberty Bill, Some United Methodists Are Fighting for Pro-Life Cause, North Carolina Legislature Slaps Charlotte’s Bathroom Bill) 2. Generations with Kevin Swanson

Modern Christians often want to put pleasure fairly far ahead of procreation when it comes to marriage. Contraception usage is assumed, and worship and gratitude take a back seat to personal gratification and sensuality. Kevin Swanson discusses these matters with Pastor Jason Young, director of the Family Vision Conference in Phoenix, Arizona. This program includes: 1. The World View in Five Minutes (The Little Sisters Appeal to the Supreme Court, Planned Parenthood Gives $20 Million to Hillary Clinton’s Campaign, Jeb Bush Endorses Ted Cruz for the Republican Nomination) 2.
