What is Faith?Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Faith is to believe and then see; the world teaches us to see and then believe. In order to speak God’s language fluently… you have to unlearn the language of the world, which is worry, fear, doubt, and unbelief. Faith is a language of life. The word of God says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” (Proverbs 18:21) There is a result that comes from faith and that result is the fruit of what you have believed. The woman with the issue of blood believed that if she could just touch the hem of Christ’s garment then she would be made whole. Observe: “And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind Him, and touched the hem of His garment: For she said within herself, If I may but touch His garment, I shall be whole. But Jesus turned about, and when He saw her, He said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.” (Matthew 9:20-22) This woman spoke the language of faith in her heart. The fruit of her belief was righteousness with God, healing, and life. Notice how Jesus referred to her as Daughter. Why did He call her daughter? He called her daughter because she was speaking His language; and only God’s children know the language of faith. Instantly, without being baptized by water, without following the law of Moses, she was a child of God by faith.
How do you get Faith?Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Romans 10:17) God has also dealt every person a measure of faith. Everyone is given faith but just like a baby has to learn to speak by hearing his parents, we also have to learn to believe and trust in God by hearing His word. Paul asked the Galatians, who were being bewitched by false Apostles, “Received you the Spirit by the works of the law or by the hearing of the faith?” The answer is by the hearing of the faith. By hearing God’s language of faith; through the word of God… we receive faith and His Holy Spirit. He also asked them, “He therefore that ministereth to you in the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of the faith?” (Galatians 3:5) Jesus did His miracles when he heard His believer’s faith. When you are speaking the language of faith; God hears you and does miracles on your behalf. Observe: “And when Jesus departed thence, two blind men followed Him, crying, and saying, Thou Son of David, have mercy on us. And when He was come into the house, the blind men came to Him: and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto Him, Yea, Lord. Then touched He their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you. And their eyes were opened; and Jesus straitly charged them, saying, See that no man know it.” (Matthew 9:27-30) Lastly, faith is a love language because it worketh by love.
What is the fruit of Faith?Abraham believed God and it was accounted to him for righteousness. Faith makes us right with God. Belief in the Lord Jesus Christ allows us to receive the gift of salvation and eternal life. When we operate in faith we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. By faith in the name of Jesus; we are given the power to become the sons of God. If we have faith as a grain of mustard seed we can move mountains. We can overcome obstacles in our life because God will act on our behalf. The Bible also says, “Without faith it is impossible to please God.” When we exercise faith, we please God. In Hebrews 4 it says, “For we which have believed do enter into rest, as He said, As I have sworn in My wrath, if they shall enter into My rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. For He spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all His works. And in this place again, If they shall enter into My rest. Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief: Again, He limiteth a certain day, saying in David, Today, after so long a time; as it is said, Today if ye will hear His voice, harden not your hearts. For if Jesus had given them rest, then would He not afterward have spoken of another day. There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For He that is entered into His rest, He also hath ceased from His own works, as God did from His own works. Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.”
See, God gives those who have faith in Him; Rest. By faith we can enter into God’s rest. Let us therefore work to believe on Him whom He sent. Faith also allows us to see God. Matthew 5:8 says, "Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God." A pure heart is a believing heart. An evil heart is a unbelieving heart. Now when I say a believing heart… I am not just talking about faith in faith; but I am talking about belief in the Lord Jesus Christ. If we have faith in faith… then we make faith an idol or a God. We shall have no other gods besides God Almighty. Some people preach having faith in faith. They who preach these things have perverted the gospel and attempt to place some place, person, idea, or thing above God. Make sure you are clear on whom your faith should trust in. Faith also defines sin. Anything that is not of faith is sin. For Christians have so great promises that rest on their faith. We put ourselves in position to receive the things of God when we believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Do your remember how Abel offered a more excellent sacrifice than Cain and God testified of his righteousness? Why is this? God heard the language of Abel’s heart! Abel had a believing heart. Cain did not. A believing heart speaks even when we are dead. We know this because the word of God says, “By it yet he being dead yet speaketh!” We are fully persuaded that faith is a lifestyle, a spiritual eye, a language of the heart, and a way to please God. I challenge each of you to learn God’s language. Study His word daily and sit at His feet and listen to His voice. Jesus Christ is the great Shepherd and He said, “My sheep hear My voice and they follow Me.” His voice speaks a language of faith. If you don’t speak faith how will you know what words He is speaking? I am glad you asked. God has given us an interpreter, If you believe and accept the Lord Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour… God will give you His Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will come and live inside of you and reveal to you the things of God. Even if you have faith and know the language… some things of God are so deep that you need His Holy Spirit to reveal to you their meanings. The Holy Spirit teaches us the language of faith and all those hard to be uttered words and their meanings. The Holy Spirit takes what is God’s and gives it to us. God bless you all! Do yourself a favor; learn the language of faith and communicate with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ continually.
