Who Is He? part 1

May 29, 2023

It was 2,000 years ago that God came to earth in human flesh, but what does that mean for you and me today?  We’ll seek to answer those question as we turn in our Bibles to Colossians chapter one. We’ll be concentrating over the next two broadcasts on verses fifteen through eighteen.

We’ve been making our way through the book of Acts with Pastor Al Pittman, and we find ourselves today in chapter twenty-five. The Apostle Paul is on trial for his belief that Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah. The way he handles himself in court is a testament of how God will give you the right words at the right time in any given situation. Christians face a lot of opposition these days, so Paul’s uncompromising way of proclaiming his faith is a good model for us.

As we go along in this section of Galatians, we’ll receive a very strong but needed warning not to pursue self-righteousness. Paul wrote this letter to a group of Jews who just couldn’t accept that the gospel message was intended for Gentiles as well. God’s grace is available to every person - and hallelujah to that! We will finish up Galatians four today, and begin chapter five.

Here in America, we consider it a courtesy to open and close a door for another person.  Some of us guys forget that about the fourth or fifth year of marriage, right?  Today, we’ll observe God opening and closing doors for His children, and specifically the apostle Paul.  God sovereignly orchestrates the events of our lives, and that can be a great comfort to know.

Today, Pastor Al Pittman will urge us to live out our faith. Are you talking the talk without walking the walk? Galatians chapter four will be our text for today’s teaching and here now is Pastor Al to bring it to us.

If we look at God’s law as a set of rules to follow in oder to get to heaven, we miss then point. We cannot obey the law perfectly, and the law points that out to us, so we must turn to faith in Christ for our salvation. Today on The Dwelling Place Pastor Al Pittman will elaborate as he continues his study of Galatians.

The law of God has no power to prevent sin - or redeem the sinner. Only grace can do that. That’s our theme on today’s The Dwelling Place with pastor Al Pittman.  The churches in Galatia had been deceived by false teachers, who had convinced them that they could be saved by works rather than grace. Let’s head over to Galatians chapter three and find out what the Apostle Paul had to say on this important issue.

In 1973, when Al was seventeen years old, the family returned from a tour in Germany and settled in Colorado Springs. Soon after, Al realized God’s call on  his life and began serving in the music ministry as a bass guitarist with a Christian band  called, “The Rays of Light.” It was during this time that Al met Norma, and they were married on July 19, 1975.

Al attended Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs, graduating in 1977 with a degree in Biblical Studies. In 1991 Al and his family moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, and two years later he joined the staff of Calvary Chapel Albuquerque as an assistant pastor and co-worship leader. In the spring of 1997 the Lord called Al and his family back to Colorado Springs to pastor Calvary Worship Center. In 2006, Al earned his Master’s degree and in 2012 he earned his Doctorate degree in Ministry from Trinity Southwest University in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
