The Defiant Ones

Pastor Al will take us to Acts four today as we see Peter and John arrested. Arrested for what? Performing miracles through the power of the Holy Spirit. Now the folks in charge around those parts didn’t appreciate being upstaged power-wise, so they arrested them.

On today’s program we once again are in the book of Acts. As we continue in chapter three today, we’ll look at a beautiful moment at a place called “the beautiful gate”. A man who had never walked was healed. And what was his reaction? He jumped! He ran! And he praised God! What a great lesson we learn in this wonderful story.

Have you ever experienced something and later realized you’d been set up? That’s exactly what’s about to happen to Peter and John. They’re on their way to the temple to pray and they come across a lame man begging for money. What happens at The Beautiful Gate served to give the people a vivid example of the presence and the power of The Holy Spirit.

Today, we’ll wrap up a message dealing with the final verses of the second chapter of Acts. Here’s the scenario: Peter is giving a dynamite sermon about the power and the glory of Jesus Christ, and those who heard the sermon clearly amazed. I think if we put ourselves in their place, we would have a very similar reaction.

Today we’ll look at Acts chapter two, verses fourteen through thirty-nine. Here, Luke records the amazing and Spirit-inspired words of the Apostle Peter’s first sermon.  Peter is exhorting his audience to repent and be saved. And those who have heard his words are being swept up in the Holy Spirit.

Pastor Al is currently leading us through a verse by verse study in the book of Acts. Today we’ll look at several verses of chapter two. Luke, the author of Acts, describes one of the most amazing events in human history - the descending of the Holy Spirit. As you might imagine, the people who witnessed this miraculous event were stunned and amazed.

On today’s program, pastor Al will continue our study in the second chapter of Acts. When the Holy Spirit came upon the hundred and twenty disciples, there were many who were amazed. But there were some who thought these spirit-filled people had had a little too much wine to drink! After all, they were being heard by the crowd in several different languages at the same time!

We’re currently surveying the Book of Acts, and we’ll be looking at the first several verses of chapter two today. As we’re about to see, there was one, major, outstanding tool that the early Church employed in their relationship with God that many of us today sadly neglect - The Holy Spirit.

It’s always exciting to read about the birth of the early Church and its leaders, several of whom went on to write much of the New Testament. As we take a look at the amazing events that took place in those early days, there are so many lessons that can be applied to our lives today.

In Acts chapter one, Jesus told His followers they would receive the power of the Holy Spirit to be His witnesses. They did indeed receive power, and that power to be a witness is not only essential but available still today. We’ve just begun a new series in Acts, and pastor Al will share the second half of his introductory message today.

Today on The Dwelling Place, pastor Al Pittman begins a new series in the book of Acts. You’ll find Acts right after John’s gospel, and that’s a very appropriate place to find it, because many bible scholars refer to Acts as “the fifth gospel”. The star of the shows to speak, is the Holy Spirit. He descends on the church in chapter two, and for the rest of the twenty-eight chapters, we see Him at work in the lives of great men like Peter, and Paul.
