Al Pittman

Weekend Edition: Introduction To Acts

October 9, 2021

Today on The Dwelling Place, pastor Al Pittman begins a new series in the book of Acts. You’ll find Acts right after John’s gospel, and that’s a very appropriate place to find it, because many bible scholars refer to Acts as “the fifth gospel”. The star of the shows to speak, is the Holy Spirit. He descends on the church in chapter two, and for the rest of the twenty-eight chapters, we see Him at work in the lives of great men like Peter, and Paul

We appreciate you tuning our way today, as pastor Al continues his series in Colossians. Al’s topic today will once again be division within the church. Being a Christian in a secular world isn’t always easy is it? You might even see the conflict between righteousness and worldliness on the job every day. The temptations are everywhere. But, as we’ll see in our study today, Christians are supposed to set themselves above the ways of the world.

Today on The Dwelling Place, we’ll again look at the relationship between Old Testament Law, and the Grace of Jesus Christ. This is not to imply that God’s law is obsolete, but we must integrate our adherence to the Law, with our understanding that we’ve been sanctified and set apart through our relationship with Jesus Christ.

The law exists for a purpose, but too many Christians today are hung up on ritual and laws. That’s exactly what Paul addresses in the section of Colossians we’ll look at today. Turn to Colossians two, verses eleven through twenty-three.

Do you think God knew two thousand years ago how relevant these words would be for us today? Of course He did! Colossians chapter two has much to teach us about false teachers, and the true source of security and liberty- our Lord Jesus Christ.  To know Jesus and His attributes is to realize that there no reason to follow any other path but the path that takes you to Him. He paid the full price for our sins, and the rewards of living a life pleasing to Him, and accepting Him as your savior are almost impossible to put into words. We’ve just begun a study of Colossians chapter two, so turn there in your Bible and join us for today’s edition of The Dwelling Place.

You’ve no doubt been asked to do something that was a stretching experience for you, that called for you to go out of your comfort zone.  Perhaps it was giving a speech in class, or doing something else that you really didn’t want to do.  Well, sometimes our call to ministry will lead us beyond our comfort zone too, and that’s a good thing as we’ll soon see.

Pastor Al is going to urge us today to continue in our faith, and he’ll use the words of Paul in Colossians chapter one to tell us how we can do that. Colossians chapter one, verses nineteen through twenty nine is our reference point.

We’re told in scripture that Jesus is the creator of heaven and earth.  So, then what should we do if He really is the God of creation?  Al Pittman will pursue that question here today on The Dwelling Place.  We aim to cover verses fifteen through eighteen of Colossians chapter one

Al attended Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs, graduating in 1977 with a degree in Biblical Studies. In 1991 Al and his family moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, and two years later he joined the staff of Calvary Chapel Albuquerque as an assistant pastor and co-worship leader. In the spring of 1997 the Lord called Al and his family back to Colorado Springs to pastor Calvary Worship Center. In 2006, Al earned his Master’s degree and in 2012 he earned his Doctorate degree in Ministry from Trinity Southwest University in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
