Faith in Crisis

October 29, 2021

Today we will continue our study through the book of Acts and chapter four . This was a time of great growth in the early Christian church, and two of the leaders of that early church, Peter and John, had been arrested for preaching the Gospel. The reaction they see when they are released and return to their church is another example of the Holy Spirit’s presence.

In Acts chapter four, we find Peter and John before the religious authorities, accused of saying things that were quite contrary to the accepted teaching of the time. But Peter and John were defiant, they were on fire for the Lord, and they were filled with the Holy Spirit. What a great example for Christians today

One of the greatest stumbling blocks to growth for a human being is pride. Never was this more perfectly illustrated than in Acts chapter four. Pastor Al will take us to Acts four today as we see Peter and John arrested. Arrested for what? Performing miracles through the power of the Holy Spirit.

On today’s program we once again are in the book of Acts. As we continue in chapter three today, we’ll look at a beautiful moment at a place called “the beautiful gate”. A man who had never walked was healed. And what was his reaction? He jumped! He ran! And he praised God! What a great lesson we learn in this wonderful story.

Have you ever experienced something and later realized you’d been set up? That’s exactly what’s about to happen to Peter and John. They’re on their way to the temple to pray and they come across a lame man begging for money. What happens at The Beautiful Gate served to give the people a vivid example of the presence and the power of The Holy Spirit.

As we take a look at the amazing events that took place in early days of the Christian Church, there are so many lessons that can be applied to our lives today. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how much the believers of today have in common with the first century Christians.

Today, we’ll wrap up a message dealing with the final verses of the second chapter of Acts. Here’s the scenario: Peter is giving a dynamite sermon about the power and the glory of Jesus Christ, and those who heard the sermon clearly amazed. I think if we put ourselves in their place, we would have a very similar reaction.

Today we’ll look at chapter two, verses twenty two through forty one. Here, Luke records the amazing and Spirit-inspired words of the Apostle Peter’s first sermon.  Peter is exhorting his audience to repent and be saved. And those who have heard his words are being swept up in the Holy Spirit.

Today we’ll look at several verses of chapter two. Luke, the author of Acts, describes one of the most amazing events in human history - the descending of the Holy Spirit. As you might imagine, the people who witnessed this miraculous event were stunned and amazed.

When the Holy Spirit came upon the hundred and twenty disciples, there were many who were amazed. But there were some who thought these spirit-filled people had had a little too much wine to drink! After all, they were being heard by the crowd in several different languages at the same time! The Apostle Peter came to the rescue with a sermon that set the record straight.

We’re currently surveying the Book of Acts, and we’ll be looking at the first several verses of chapter two today. As we’re about to see, there was one, major, outstanding tool that the early Church employed in their relationship with God that many of us today sadly neglect - The Holy Spirit. What we read here in Acts two is the appearance of the Holy Spirit as He descended on the early church.
