A survey by the Pew Research Center found that 52 percent of Americans believe churches and other religious institutions should not be involved in politics. That sentiment has increased since the 2004 presidential elections. A 45 percent of Americans affirm that churches should proclaim their political views.
 
The survey by the Pew Research Center was prompted by the presidential candidate forum held and televised from the Saddleback Church with host Rick Warren.
 
An interesting fact is that the participants surveyed claimed to be conservatives who profess the Christian faith. It wouldn’t be surprising that humanists, who detest everything, related to God, His Word and the biblical foundation of this country would continue their quest to eradicate Christianity from all of our social structures. But for conservatives and Christians to join them in their fight to chase God out of the public square is truly unacceptable and reprehensive even though their reasoning may sound understandable. What could that reason be? The reason is very plain; biblical illiteracy and ignorance of the biblical history of this nation. 
 
On February 14, 1954, in Time magazine, Chief Justice Earl Warren stated:
 
“I believe no one can read the history of our country...without realizing that the Good Book and the spirit of the Savior have from the beginning been our guiding geniuses....Whether we look to the first Charter of Virginia...or to the Charter of New England...or to the Charter of Massachusetts Bay...or to the Fundamental Orders of Connecticut...the same objective is present: a Christian land governed by Christian principles....
 
I believe the entire Bill of Rights came into being because of the knowledge our forefathers had of the Bible and their belief in it: freedom of belief, of expression, of assembly, of petition, the dignity of the individual, the sanctity of the home, equal justice under the law, and the reservation of powers to the people....
 
I like to believe we are living today in the spirit of the Christian religion. I like also to believe that as long as we do so, no great harm can come to our country.” [i]
 
If Chief Justice Warren could see our national condition 54 years later he would remember his words and yell at the top of his lungs, I warned you! I warned you!
 
Humanists, neophytes of the biblical perspective along with all those who deny America’s biblical foundation, hysterically declare that the United States was never a Christian nation and go further to say that those who affirm it was are intolerant to a diversity of religions or races, blah, blah, blah. They sound like a broken record, but I have a question for them, is the Declaration of Independence intolerant toward atheists, humanists, evolutionists and other religions?
 
Let us consider what the Declaration of Independence declares:
 
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights,…”
 
Most people in the thirteen colonies professed the Christian faith as they fought for their independence to become a new nation and remained united through their faith. The Declaration of Independence is a document founded on the Bible; the rights it demands are based on the biblical perspective. It affirms that those rights are a gift from our Creator, without whom the existence of rights is impossible.
 
It is impossible to have rights if the moral norms which consolidate the character of this nation as revealed in the Declaration of Independence are rejected.
 
“…the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God…” “Appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world…”
 
The Declaration of Independence ends with these words:
 
“And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.”
 
Those who heard the declarations of this political document for the first time understood that its perspective was 100 percent biblical.
 
Ever since Christians allowed the Bible, The Ten Commandments, prayer and virtues which shape good character to be taken out of the public schools, Marxist, Nazi, socialistic and humanistic ideas which destroyed the nations that have applied them, have dominated our education system and we are clearly witnessing the devastating consequences.
 
The sad fact is that the majority of Christians have rebelled against obeying the Great Commission. The lack of the church’s obedience to the cultural mandate imbedded in the Great Commission is the main reason for the present deplorable condition of the nation.
 
For more than 300 years the citizens of this nation were involved in politics, social matters, the media, and education. But most of the pulpits of the nation for way too long have preached defeatist and fatalistic messages that are an abomination to the Sovereignty of our all-powerful Lord. This defeatist mental conditioning is precisely why Christians abandoned the political arena and the result is enormous corruption and degenerate laws which has caused serious social chaos.
 
It is the foolishness of defeatist messages and keeping Christians away from the political arena which has made the way wide open for men and women who despise the absolutes of God to take control of the government, universities, courts, legislation, media, the world of entertainment, science and the economy. It is when Christians fail to fulfill their civic duty that they turn their back on the blessing God longs to shower upon this nation which he wants to be a beacon on a hill and an example to other nations.
 
To eradicate the senselessness Christians have created, every true believer and Christian pulpit in the nation should initiate and participate in serious and systematic collective intercession. The task of developing effective leadership is greatly needed to carry out this intercession. A revision of denominational doctrines which have caused this insanity is greatly needed. It is urgent that we begin to give the Holy Spirit His rightful place in the life of the believer to show Himself strong as He longs to do. It is imperative that we motivate each Christian to social action to change the tide of the overwhelming evil that is oppressing us. There is no other way to restore our national mental sanity.
 
“Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.” Proverbs 14:34.
 
“By the blessing of the upright a city is exalted, but by the mouth of the wicked it is overthrown.” Proverbs 11:11.
