But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins (2 Peter 1:9).

Believe

Nearsighted and blind.

It’s a spiritual condition many believers suffer with today.

They can’t see the good news of Jesus Christ because they are too busy focusing on their sin and guilt, their weaknesses and struggles, and their fears and frustrations. And it blinds them to their forgiveness in Christ.

The worst part is that it grinds their spiritual growth to a screeching halt.

Maybe you feel this way — like your spiritual growth has come to a screeching halt.

There is a simple reason. Peter identified the cause this way—you have forgotten that you have been cleansed from your past sins. Forgetting this truth puts fear, and specifically fear of punish-ment, in charge of your relationship with God. And fear will keep you from “adding to your faith.”

If you want to grow in grace, start with Christ’s finished work on the cross. Resting in the truth that you have been cleansed gives rise to a dynamic and growing faith in Christ. Peter described it this way:

For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perse-verance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffec-tive and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Peter 1:5-8).

Knowing that you are clean, that your sins have been forgiven, is the key to your growth and trans-formation in Jesus Christ.

Live

If you are not 100% sure that your sins are forgiven, take a fresh look at the cross and thank God that He forgave you for all of your sins and cleansed you of all unrighteousness.

This will give you the eyes to see all that you have in Jesus.
