Our kitchen table is square.
When we want to meet as a family, either I or Jeanna will send out the word — meeting at the “square” tonight for dinner.
That table is the place we are most comfortable to talk, to laugh, to plan and to enjoy each other’s company.
The square is our meeting place.
I bet you have a favorite meeting place for your family and friends.
The same is true for God. In the Old Testament that place was the mercy seat. We read about it in the book of Exodus.
“You shall make a mercy seat of pure gold…There I will meet with you, and from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubim that are on the ark of the testimony, I will speak with you about all I will give you in commandment for the people of Israel” (Exodus 25:17, 22).
That mercy seat was only a shadow of the true meeting place between God and man. Jesus Christ is the real place of mercy and grace. It is in him that God and man come together to enjoy one another’s company.
And here’s the best part. Once you have found Jesus, you are always at God’s favorite meeting place.
