Do We Have to "Be Perfect"?

December 24, 2019

Is there significance to the NIV translation which says we should forgive only 77 times? How important is it to “confess with your mouth” and what if you can’t speak ? Did Jesus really have an expectation of us being perfect like God (Matthew 5)? How do we view Christians’ hearts and attitudes when they do things that are cruel and hurtful to us?

Is the number 33 significant in the life of Jesus? Why did Jesus tell us to hate our family? Is there a difference between judgment and discernment? What happens to people who never hear the gospel?

Whom do we pray to – the Father, the Son, or the Holy Spirit? Should Mary be considered “the new Eve”? Is there a prayer or essential ingredient for getting saved? I struggle with alcohol and nicotine. Does this mean I cannot inherit the kingdom of God?

Is grace a license to sin? And does grace and holiness contradict each other? What are your thoughts on speaking in tongues? Does God still heal today?

What does the Bible say about racial discrimination? Is there guaranteed physical healing for every Christian? Where do the new names for people in the Bible come from? In the new covenant, was God thinking of the lost 10 tribes of Israel as being “the Gentiles”? My friend is in the midst of a divorce. How can I help her? Is baptism just important or is it necessary for salvation? Is there any difference between “the kingdom of God” and “the kingdom of heaven” in Matthew? Church people are telling me to not be unequally yoke but I am not even married or dating, so what are they talking about?

In Revelation, there’s an admonition for Christians to remain focused and not lose their first love. David from Florida called in about this expression. He had been told that not losing your first love means to “remain energized” and “stay 100% sold out” and make sure you’re always doing good works. But the group that received this admonition from God was already busy standing up for truth and stomping out evil doctrines! So in this short clip, I share with David what it really means to remain focused on our first love, Jesus. Enjoy!

Do we fight sin? Does God do all the fighting? Is there anything we are supposed to do in confronting temptation? This was Jerod’s question when he called in from Canada to our Radio program. In this short clip, I respond to Jerod and discuss what our role is in response to the temptation of sin. I hope this is clarifying and helpful as you confront enemy ideas in your thought life.

“You talk a lot about grace, but where does obedience fit in? Don’t we need to be obedient to be blessed by God?” Sometimes I’m asked questions like these, and this was what was on Mike’s mind when he called in. In this short clip, I address obedience in light of God’s grace. I hope you’re encouraged and inspired. This is one that you don’t want to miss!

Wendy from Boston called in to tell me that she has been taught that some believers will be disappointed in Heaven, because they won’t get as many rewards as other Christians. Is this true? Will there be disappointment in Heaven? And what about the idea of differing quantities of rewards? In this brief clip, I address Wendy’s fears and highlight the truth. I hope this is an encouragement to you.

Do we still sin because of a sinful nature that we possess as believers? Or is there some other more accurate explanation for our struggles? In this short clip, I address this important question and how it affects the way that we approach temptation. This is one you don’t want to miss as it may bring a new level of clarity for you regarding your identity in Christ.

Over 30 years ago, Rick was sentenced to 168 years in prison. While inside, he became a believer and learned a great deal about God’s grace. Now, Rick has been released and has a heart for Jesus. Recently, he was invited to become a chaplain at a campground but was told by others that he was not qualified to minister to others because of his past. Rick called in to our radio program to ask if it would be a mistake for him to take the position as a campground chaplain. In this short clip, I address Rick’s concern. In many ways, this speaks to our own fears of being unqualified to share the good news with other people. I hope it is encouraging to you today!
