God's Good, Pleasing, and Perfect Will

April 18, 2024

The world’s will for us, based on the world’s thinking sounds right and reasonable at face value:  money equals happiness, success is the path to satisfaction, what makes me feel good must be right.  Alternatively, God’s will for our lives doesn’t sound quite so attractive: humility, sacrifice, and service to others.  Join Dr. James Boice next time on The Bible Study Hour as he shows us that walking in God’s will is in the end, the path that brings true joy and satisfaction in the life of the believer.

Those who are in Christ have been justified before God. But salvation means much more; it means that we are sanctified, that God actually leads us into holiness. As Michael Allen and company explain, our holiness is carried out in the present work of our sovereign, loving God. In Christ we are given life, not simply in name, but in fact. Praise the Lord, who delivers His children through every weakness. Though you struggle with sin, do not be discouraged; it is God who works in you, "both to will and to work for his good pleasure" (Phil. 2:13).

As we look deeper into Chapter 51, Isaiah prays with great boldness on behalf of Israel, that God would arise, awaken, and ransom His people. God answers his servant’s cry and assures them that He is the covenant God who will never let them go. Reverend Eric Alexander calls us to awaken, that we may grasp the wonders of His saving grace, in Hear the Word of God.

Have you ever left a project unfinished? Our lives are filled with projects that we have never quite managed to complete. We have half-read books on our shelves and piles of junk left abandoned from hobbies we’ve started, but never finished. Thankfully Jesus Christ did not leave the great project of his life unfinished. He got the job done, He accomplished the mission.

If you place a blind man in unfamiliar surroundings he will be hopelessly lost, but with a seeing eye dog to lead him he will find his way. The Christian walk is often a difficult and confusing pilgrimage through a lost and fallen world. How can we learn to rely on the Holy Spirit to lead us in paths of righteousness that are pleasing to the Lord?

If you eliminate God from the universe as humanists tend to do, then man assumes the role and becomes the measure of all things.  In light of that, you may be surprised to learn that the Bible also describes man as much more important and valuable than any humanist might imagine, but with one major caveat.  Join Dr. James Boice next time on The Bible Study Hour as he explores the value of man and the value of others.

Isaiah now addresses those who have remained faithful among God’s people in Babylon. God urges them to remember their past and promises to restore their joy and bring everlasting salvation. Hear as Reverend Alexander reminds us that God’s power is as great today as it was for His exiled people in Hear the Word of God.

Have you ever been at a place in your life where you felt forgotten or forsaken, totally alone? It’s a painful place to be, a place where you feel no one understands or “feels your pain.” But one person does understand, and has felt your pain and has conquered death for you so that you can have eternal life.

For years, the Berlin Wall separated citizens of East Germany from family members in West Germany. Families once divided were reunited when the wall finally came down. Sadly, many churches, Christians, and denominations have built barriers preventing fellowship with other believers. How can we tear down the walls that divide us, reestablish true Christian unity, and live as brothers and sisters in the Lord? Let's find out!

The enemies of Jesus learned about the resurrection before His followers did. The soldiers charged with guarding the tomb found it empty and feared the punishment that awaited them. But rather than being punished they were rewarded for their silence. Join Dr. James Boice next time on The Bible Study Hour as he takes us through the reactions to the resurrection.
