God’s Gift of Salvation

For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;” (Ephesians 2:8, NASB95)

What a wonderful truth, that salvation is through faith, and a gift of God. This truth is wonderful on two counts.

First, that salvation is through faith. I am so grateful that it is “not of works” as verse 10 declares. I’m equally grateful it is not of money, good looks, popularity of men or partiality of God. The Word of God declares that “whosoever will may come,” and that whosoever comes must do so “through faith.” The source of faith is by hearing the Gospel, according to Paul in Romans 10.

Second, this salvation is a gift of God. Some theological persuasions make the faith a gift, but grammatically the Greek clearly says that the gift is from God, not the faith. Faith comes by hearing, and those who hear the Gospel have the opportunity to respond, in faith, to God, receiving His gift of salvation.

And for this, I rejoice!

In His Grace;
