His Special Care
Mark 1:14-15 (NIV®) Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!”
The “good news” Jesus brought was that the Kingdom of God was near. Every kingdom has its own authorities and boundaries and rules. And if you are going to thrive as a citizen in that place, you need to recognize and cooperate with those things. Being a Christ-follower does not mean that we join a church and get a new morality and a new dress code for the weekends. Being a Christ-follower means that we are citizens of the Kingdom of God, where we acknowledge the authority of our King and the boundaries He wants us to live within and the rules He wants us to abide by. As Jesus-followers it is frustrating and fruitless to expend energy trying to get God to recognize our interpretation of those things. When we acknowledge and accept His authority and make a conscious decision to joyfully yield to it, we will be happier and more productive citizens of His Kingdom.
THINK ABOUT IT
How is God’s Kingdom like an earthly kingdom? How is it different from an earthly kingdom?
Heavenly Father, thank You that You are the author and perfecter of all things—that You are the creator and sustainer of life, and nothing is hidden from You. I thank You that I am under Your special care because I am a citizen of Heaven. Therefore, I place my mind, will, and emotions onto Your altar, knowing that Your authority is all powerful. Today I joyfully yield to You. Make me a productive participant in Your Kingdom. In Jesus’ name, amen.
