His Great Power

2 Chronicles 14:11 (NIV®)

Then Asa called to the LORD his God and said, “LORD, there is no one like you to help the powerless against the mighty. Help us, O LORD our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this vast army. O LORD, you are our God; do not let man prevail against you.”

An army was threatening his nation, and King Asa made a declaration of faith that speaks to us through the centuries. If you’re not in the habit of praying the Scriptures, I commend it to you. It’s a marvelous one-verse prayer for when you face challenges that you feel powerless to overcome. And they come to all of us―in the form of a medical diagnosis, a relational challenge, a financial need―they come in many, many ways. Life is more difficult than I would wish, not just for wicked people but for good people doing the best they know. In the challenges of life, however, there is no one like Almighty God to help us when we feel powerless.

Consider a time when you felt powerless. How did God give you strength during that season?

Heavenly Father, just as King Asa declared, there is none like You. You help me when I am powerless against a mighty enemy. Help me, Lord, for I rely on You, and in Your name I have come against a vast army. Oh Lord, You are my God; do not let man prevail against You. Great is Your name in all the earth. In Jesus’ name, amen.
