Blooms in the Desert

Romans 11:1 (NIV®)

I ask then: Did God reject his people? By no means!

Israel is a tiny little nation, tucked away at the end of the Mediterranean, yet it garners a disproportionate amount of international interest and even hatred. I visited Israel for the first time in 1970, when it was still a developing nation. The roads were two-lane, and many of them were unpaved. Today Israel is surrounded by nations that would like to destroy it, yet it has become one of the most modern nations of the world. The only way to explain the success of Israel, other than the sacrifices of the people who live there, is the sovereign intervention of Almighty God. Like the nation of Israel, with God’s help we too can flourish in difficult places. So often we imagine that life can only be fulfilling and meaningful if all of our circumstances are perfect and everyone around us approves and applauds. Even though life is seldom like that, you can rest in the knowledge that you are loved and accepted by Almighty God. So don’t let difficulties and challenges rob you of the notion that God is watching over your life, because He is, and He wants good things for you.

Reflect over your life and think of a time you have faced rejection since you decided to follow Jesus. How did He lead you and provide for you during that time?

Heavenly Father, thank You for opening up my heart and mind to the truth of Your Word. I pray for the Church today, that we would be awakened to Your purposes for our generation. We choose to humble ourselves and turn to You in repentance. Forgive this nation for our rebellion; we ask for Your mercy instead of judgement. We pray for the peace of Jerusalem—for the peace of hearts and minds that only You can provide. In Jesus’ name, amen.
