Jeremiah 1:4-5 (NIV®)
The word of the LORD came to me, saying, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”
We know Jeremiah as the famous prophet. But when God called him to be His messenger to the people, Jeremiah told God that he was too young and inexperienced for such an important role. God assured Jeremiah that He had known him and set him apart for this very purpose before he was born. God has a purpose and a plan, a direction, a call, an intent, for every human being. That is only one side of the equation, however. The other is how we respond to God. Jeremiah chose to cooperate with God, and he became one of the most remarkable prophets in all of Israelite history. What will your choice be when God calls you to follow His direction?
THINK ABOUT IT
Jeremiah was a young man when God called him, but God calls people of all ages. And some of God’s calls are lifelong, while others are just for a season. What is God calling you to at this stage of your life? How are you responding?
Heavenly Father, I rejoice that I am known by Almighty God and that Your purposes might be fulfilled in my life. Help me to recognize Your plan for this season of my life. Grant me the strength and wisdom to complete the course You have for me. Give me the boldness to follow and the willingness to proclaim Jesus as Lord. In Jesus’ name, amen.
