Respect Godly Women

“Now therefore, my lord, as the Lord lives and as your soul lives, since the Lord has held you back from coming to bloodshed and from avengingyourself with your own hand, now then, let your enemies and those who seek harm for my lord be as Nabal. And now this present which your maidservant has brought to my lord, let it be given to the young men who follow my lord. Please forgive the trespass of your maidservant. For the Lord will certainly make for my lord an enduring house, because my lord fights the battles of the Lord, and evil is not found in you throughout your days.”
1 Samuel 25:26-28

There was a tremendous weakness in the character of David––anger and rashness. Abigail needed to appease David so he would not shed innocent blood and sin against God. The Lord would use this godly woman’s life to a great extent. God honored Abigail’s actions. As David began to listen to Abigail’s words of intercession, his temper would eventually subside––he would be calmed––and he would turn aside from doing harm against her husband Nabal and her household.

Both in the Church and in the home, you will find godly women.  They are such a blessing in the body of Christ. They volunteer their time freely, serving the Lord despite their busy schedules. They really do a lot for the kingdom of God. Many women willingly serving the Lord while still taking care of the home––cooking, washing the clothes, cleaning and taking care of children––that’s a lot of work!

I encourage men to respect the women in the Church, especially those in leadership. Women are the weaker vessels; they need to be cared for and shown the love of Christ.  Men need to be more helpful to the women serving in the ministry. They can help them with setting up tables and chairs. We are co-workers together in the body of Christ.

I commend to you Phoebe our sister, who is a servant of the church in Cenchrea, that you may receive her in the Lord in a manner worthyof the saints, and assist her in whatever business she has need of you; for indeed she has been a helper of many and of myself also.
