Planning Your Own Path

Then David arose and went over with the six hundred men who were with him to Achish the son of Maoch, king of Gath. So David dwelt with Achish at Gath, he and his men, each man with his household, and David with his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the Carmelitess, Nabal’s widow. And it was told Saul that David had fled to Gath; so he sought him no more.
1 Samuel 27:2-4

Instead of staying with his own people, David fled to Gath.  He was in the enemies’ camp, joined together with the Philistines. Wait a minute; these are the Philistines who hated God’s people! He was to be the next King of Israel, and yet he was found to be in enemy territory––sad.

At this time, David attempted to work out his own plan and path for his life. He took matters into his own hands, trusting in his own strength. It was a lesser plan than what God intended for his life. God had something much better––a higher plan. When David grew more mature in age, God reassured him of his guidance, and He instructed him:

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;I will guide you with My eye. Do not be like the horse or like the mule, which have no understanding, which must be harnessed with bit and bridle, else they will not come near you (Psalm 32:8-9).

Understand, God desires to be close to us, guiding us with His eye upon us, in the same way a parent guides a child. He guides us in His love and care––not by force. Sometimes we have the wrong picture of God in our minds. We think God is out to get us––this is not so. When He pursues us, it is with His love, grace and mercy.

Have you strayed away from the Lord’s plan for your life? Do not be stubborn like a mule. Give God the reins of your heart, and let Him guide you into the plan He has for your life. His plans are way better than yours.

“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man
the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”
~1 Corinthians 2:9~
