Labor Day

…It is good and fitting for one to eat… and to enjoy the good of all his labor in which he toils under the sun all the days of his life which God gives him; for it is his heritage.
Ecclesiastes 5:18

In America, the first Monday of September is a day that is set aside to recognize laborers who have worked hard for their country and families. Almost every employee across the country will have a day off to just rest and relax. As summer draws to a close, men and women will enjoy the fruits of their labors and a final, long summer weekend before going back to work and sending their children off to school.

In fact, for many families, school has already begun! Some people are already beginning to get an early start in the preparations for Thanksgiving and Christmas! Yet most people would agree, “Let us first enjoy the long Labor Day Weekend and what is left of summer’s long and restful days.” It is important to spend quality time with our families. Life is so busy, and it is nice to slow down and be with them.

Even King Solomon saw the wisdom of taking time to enjoy the blessings of the Lord. Everything we have––our jobs, our homes and our daily provision––comes from Him. God is the one who has provided everything for us to enjoy:

As for every man to whom God has given riches and wealth, and given him power to eat of it, to receive his heritage and rejoice in his labor—this is the gift of God (Ecclesiastes 5:19).

As you rest and enjoy your family today, look around and see all the benefits and blessings God has given to you in this life. Appreciate all you have––be joyful and be thankful.

You can’t truly rest until every area in your life rests in God.
