The Chase Resumes

Now the Ziphites came to Saul at Gibeah, saying, “Is David not hiding in the hill of Hachilah, opposite Jeshimon?” Then Saul arose and went down to the Wilderness of Ziph, having three thousand chosen men of Israel with him, to seek David in the Wilderness of Ziph. And Saul encamped in the hill of Hachilah, which is opposite Jeshimon, by the road. But David stayed in the wilderness, and he saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness.
1 Samuel 26:1-3

Saul, after previously voicing his love for David, once again resumed his chase after him. He did not slacken off in his pursuit of David––he wanted him destroyed. The Ziphites also continued to become a real thorn in David’s life. They were informants, watching his every move. They reported to Saul anything they saw about David in hopes that they could lead the king to him––so David could be killed.

There are people about us who are just like the Ziphites. They continue to bring discouragement in our lives. They seem to enjoy being informants, snitching to those in authority over us to get us into deep trouble. The enemy will use them to try and destroy our lives.

In spiritual warfare, the enemy is in constant pursuit: Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8). What action can we take against him? The Apostle Peter tells us: Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world (1 Peter 5:9).

Christians are all in a spiritual warfare together. It is important to encourage, support and pray for one another in the battle.

Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
~1 Timothy 6:12~
