Owe No Man Anything

Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law.
Romans 13:8

Once again, Paul spoke about debt––owe no one anything. We are bound by duty to do what we ought. Previously, Paul had told Christians they should pay taxes. Even today, the government will pursue anyone who evades paying their taxes. For a Christian, there must be no cheating––make sure you pay what is due. Why do we have to pay taxes? Notice, Paul tells us of another debt, the fulfillment of the law–– love. So we pay our debts because of the law of love.

Christians have an obligation to pay bills on time. Yes, we can make payments on our houses and cars, but as a person of integrity, do not be late on those payments. If you acquire a loan, take full responsibility. Be on time as you pay it back; otherwise, you will be charged high interest. If that happens, you cannot really complain about it, because you made the decision to get the loan in the first place.

Seriously, when you borrow, make sure you pay back what you owe. If you have a credit card, do not get behind with your payments––make sure you pay it every month. If you cannot afford to purchase things on a credit card, then do not have one until you have the means to pay back the cash for what you have spent, every month.

Christians need to be men and women of integrity. Owe no one anything except to love one another! This is my motto with finances; if you cannot afford it, do not buy it! Do not be late with your payments. Pay every month what you owe, or otherwise you will be a bad witness.

If a person gets his attitude toward money straight, it will help straighten out almost every other area in his life.
