Be Like-minded

Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus, that you may with one mind and one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Romans 15:5-6

Paul placed great importance on unity of Spirit within the body of Christ. He prayed for believers to be like-minded. Think of how many divisions, debates and separations happen among us––sad. That should never be. This great unity only comes through the Spirit of Jesus Christ working in us. As we study the character of God, we learn how to be patient with each other. We can comfort others with the comfort of God.

When Christians stand united, they will not be divided. Believers are to be united in love, in faith and doctrine. They agree on what is taught in God’s Word. When the Church is united; they become like-minded. With one mouth, they bring glory to God. Yet why do some churches become radical, critical and liberal in their theology and thinking? Usually, it is because they are changing the Word of God. People cannot make their own rules and regulations. Theologically, Paul always referred back to the Old Testament Scriptures, as the New Testament was not completed.

It is important to spend time in the study of God’s Word. I recommend that everyone should have a Strong’s Concordance, a Young’s Concordance, and a Vine’s Expository Dictionary. If you look up words using these tools, then you will have a better understanding of the Word of God, and what is being said in context. You will learn sound doctrine. Seriously, it takes hard work to study the Bible.

When you sit down to study the Bible, how often do your eyes get heavy? Then you fall asleep! Even from the pulpit I can tell who is sleepy and dozing off, and who is really tuned in to what is being taught. Be honest. How much are you actually getting out of the Bible study? You have to be awake and aware of God’s voice when He is speaking to you!

We cannot expect the world to believe that the Father sent the Son, that Jesus’ claims are true and that Christianity is true, unless the world sees some reality of the oneness of true Christians.
