Thanksgiving

I will praise You, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will tell of all Your marvelous works.
Psalms 9:1

Despite everything that is happening in our world today, as we all live through a terrible pandemic, with families having experienced the loss of loved ones, and many people enduring financial hardships, I believe with all my heart we still have so much to be thankful for. Within the belly of a great fish, instead of drowning in sorrow, Jonah cried out and said: “But I will sacrifice to You with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay what I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD” (Jonah 2:9).

Paul and Silas proclaimed the way of salvation; they were beaten and imprisoned for their faith in Christ. Instead of giving into feelings of defeat and sorrow, they prayed and sang praises to God. Something miraculous happened. An earthquake caused the foundation of the prison to shake, the doors opened, and everyone was set free! The keeper of the prison would have taken his life, but Paul called out to him to stay his hand.

In turn, the keeper called for a light; he came into the prison and cried out, “What must I do to be saved?” The Apostles told him the simple way of salvation: “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.” The Word of God was spoken to all that were in the prison keeper’s house. The prison keeper washed the Apostle’s wounds, and straightway he and his family were baptized. Rejoicing in salvation, the keeper of the prison set a meal before them (Acts 16:16-34KJV).

This Thanksgiving, no matter the circumstances, as you gather together with your family, rejoice in the light of your salvation (Psalm 27:1-2) and what great things Christ has done in your life! Choose to praise the Lord with your whole heart and be thankful. Miraculous things still happen. Then during your Thanksgiving feast, you will be able to share with others the marvelous works of God!

A thankful heart has a continual feast.
