Fully Trusting God

Then the Philistines went up once again and deployed themselves in the Valley of Rephaim. Therefore David inquired of the Lord, and He said, “You shall not go up; circle around behind them, and come upon them in front of the mulberry trees.” - 2 Samuel 5:22-23

The Philistines were not willing to give up. The Lord defeated them at Baal Perazim and they had to run, but they still wanted to fight David. They regrouped and gathered against David in the Valley of Rephaim.

At this point, David could have assumed he was under God’s first command to go up against the Philistines. God had given him the victory at Baal Perazim, but the Philistines did not go away, surely God would be with them in the Valley of Rephaim.

David could have assumed, but he did not. He was a smart man, a wise warrior for the Lord. David did not just go back into the battle. Instead, he inquired of the Lord, “Should we go up against the Philistines?”

Look at God’s answer, “No.” God had another plan for David. He told him not to go up, but to circle around behind them. He was strategizing against them. They would not expect David to go around.

How many times has God told you not to do something, but you do it anyway? Many times, God has a better plan for us, but we are so stubborn and sure we know what to do and how to do it, we ignore God. Then, we get into trouble. We need to be more like David and trust in the Lord fully and completely. Then, we will have victory!

Faith will lead you where you cannot walk. Reason has never been a mountain climber.
