Trust in God’s Promises

So David inquired of the Lord, saying, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will You deliver them into my hand?” And the Lord said to David, “Go up, for I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into your hand.” - 2 Samuel 5:19

When the Philistines deployed to the Valley of Rephaim and went searching for David, David was smart and he went to the Lord. First, he asked if he should go against the Philistines. His second question was even more important. David wanted to know if the Lord would give him victory. He recognized it was only by God’s hand he would have victory against his enemies.

David learned his lesson. When he was in the land of the Philistines, he had not heard from God the entire time. For more than a year, David did not inquire of the Lord, and he did some very foolish things. With the enemy at the door, David knew his only hope was in the Lord.

Look what God said. He would deliver the Philistines into David’s hand. That was all David had to hear. He knew God’s promise was a sure thing. If God said He would deliver the Philistines to him, He would do it.

This promise from God was to David and his men, but God has given us many promises throughout the Bible. He has promised us eternal life with Him, when we give our lives over to Him. He has promised to be with us in every trial and tribulation, in every rejoicing and victory. He will be by our sides. If you want to have a peace and comfort in your life, no matter what circumstances you are facing, know God’s promises and hold onto them. You can rest in the promises of God.

We are not taking any risks when we step out on the Word of God.
