Veterans Day

The high cost of our freedom should never be forgotten. Veterans Day reminds us to pause and remember to honor those men and women from all branches of the military who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. They have courageously fought to keep America free.

Veterans Day was formerly called Armistice Day. November 11 marks the end of World War 1, which happened on November 11, 1918. However, Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. Military veterans and should not be confused with Memorial Day, which remembers those who have died in serving our great country.

The Veterans Day National Ceremony is held on November 11th at Arlington National Cemetery. The ceremony on November 11, 2020, begins with a wreath that is laid at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and continues inside the Memorial Amphitheater for an observance ceremony where the United States Army Band will play, “Perishing’s Own.” The ceremony is intended to honor and thank all who have served in the United States Armed Forces.

Freedom comes at a high cost. Brave men and women have fought to keep America free from both communism and socialism. Sir Winston Churchill once said, “Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.”
