Veterans Day

“Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.”
John 15:13

The high cost of our freedom should never be forgotten. Veterans Day (formerly Armistice Day) reminds us to pause and remember to honor those men and women in the armed forces who have courageously fought to keep America free. However, Veterans Day should not be confused with Memorial Day. Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. Military veterans, while Memorial Day remembers those who have died in serving our great country.

This year, those who celebrate will commemorate the 100th anniversary of Veterans Day. The Veterans Day National Ceremony is held on November 11th at Arlington National Cemetery. The ceremony begins with a wreath that is laid at the Tomb of the Unknowns and continues inside the Memorial Amphitheater with a parade of colors by veterans' organizations and remarks from dignitaries. The ceremony is intended to honor and thank all who served in the United States Armed Forces.

For the third year in a row, President Trump issued a proclamation designating November as National Veterans and Military Families Month. He gave special honor and attention to our armed forces and military families by saying in his speech:

“I encourage all communities, all sectors of society, and all Americans to acknowledge and honor the service, sacrifices, and contributions of veterans and military families for what they have done and for what they do every day to support our great nation.”

President Trump honored and expressed the country’s deep appreciation for these brave men and women and their families. It is our duty to do the same. We should recognize them, shake their hands, and wholeheartedly thank them for their willing sacrifices.

“The willingness with which our young people are likely to serve in any war, no matter how justified, shall be directly proportional to how they perceive the Veterans of earlier wars were treated and appreciated by their nation."
~President George Washington~
