Christ, the Head of the Church

...far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.
Ephesians 1:21--23

Notice how powerful Jesus Christ is. Jesus was resurrected above all––exalted above all. Jesus Christ is greater than Satan, his demons, the False Prophet and the Antichrist. He rules over countless multitudes of angels (Hebrews 12:22). His name is the name above all names:

Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father (Philippians 2:9-11).

Christ is the Head of the Church, and we need to submit ourselves to Him. Each one of us, as a child of God, has become a part of the body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:12-14). There are those who have tried to place themselves as the head of the Church. Peter was not the first Pope. When Jesus said to Peter, “And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it” (Matthew 16:18), the Lord was in the location of Caesarea Philippi against the background of a massive rock.

Jesus referred to Himself as the “Rock,” which the Church was to be built upon, and Peter, in comparison, was just a small pebble. In the Greek language there is a clear distinction between Petra used for the Lord, and Petros, which refers to Peter as the Apostle. In fact, Peter was married. His mother-in-law was sick, and Jesus healed her (Matthew 8:14-15). Understand, we are not to bow to any man, but only to Jesus Christ.

To Him [Jesus] the assemblies of the saints pay all regal honor, and at his throne the entire church boweth itself, saluting him as Master and Lord.
