God’s Sovereignty

Then Saul sent to Jesse, saying, “Please let David stand before me, for he has found favor in my sight.”  And so it was, whenever the spirit from God was upon Saul, that David would take a harp and play it with his hand. Then Saul would become refreshed and well, and the distressing spirit would depart from him.
1 Samuel 16:22-23

Through God’s sovereignty, notice what has taken place in David’s life.  King Saul sent a request to David’s father Jesse to have his son continually in his presence.  David had found favor in the sight of Saul and would stand before the king. David was in the right place at the right time. Everything that had taken place in the life of David was the direct result of God’s sovereignty.

Read these Scripture verses about God’s sovereignty to develop a better understanding of God’s divine character working in the affairs of men:

Proverbs 16:9: A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.

Proverbs 19:21:There are many plans in a man’s heart, nevertheless the Lord’s counsel—that will stand.

Isaiah 46:10-11:“Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things that are not yet done, Saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will do all My pleasure’… Indeed I have spoken it; I will also bring it to pass. I have purposed it; I will also do it.”

Romans 8:28:And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

In our own lives, God’s hand is in every detail. We may not realize it until we look back on where He has taken us from, to where He has taken us now. As you think on these incredible things, write in a journal your thoughts on God’s sovereignty seen working in your own life.

The more we understand God’s sovereignty, the more our prayers will be filled with thanksgiving.
