Suppressing the Truth

…unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them.
Romans 1:18-19

The Apostle Paul set order to the book of Romans. In the beginning of chapter 1, he had spoken about justification, faith in Jesus Christ, and the incredible power of the Gospel. He had also painted a picture of sinful mankind. The heart of man is so dark and sinful. He revealed the true nature and extent of human sin.

As sinners, people can be pretty bad and vicious. Yet they believe themselves to be nice people. Have you ever seen someone lose their temper? They are uncontrolled and capable of great sin. It is the Word of God that can restrain them from what they would otherwise do.

Ungodly and unrighteous men know the truth of God, but they choose to suppress it! Suppressing the truth is a sin against God. Imagine being in court as the charges against you are read. Your whole life is seen on big screens. God is angry with people who do not listen to His Word. Those who are willfully disobedient suppress the truth of God.

Christians need to listen and pay attention to instructions. God’s Word is written for a purpose. Heed what is written and avoid getting into trouble. Men like to venture beyond their borders. Believers must learn to follow the orders and not suppress the truth of God’s Word. Obeying His commandments will bring blessing, and if not obeyed, cursing.

Be careful. There is a natural law of sowing and reaping, and there are grave consequences when reaping to your sin––big time. Thank God believers have been forgiven for all they have done before they came to Christ.

If Christ, who was God’s Son, suffered so bitterly for sins that were not his own, how bitterly must you, who are not God’s sons but God’s enemies, suffer for sins that are your own? And you must so suffer unless Christ, the substitute, stands for you.
~C.H. Spurgeon~
