The Wrath of God

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men….
Romans 1:18

Paul had written his letter from the city of Corinth before he went to Rome. He understood the unrighteous environment they lived in and the situations believers faced. The Christians living in the city of Rome were exposed to parties and orgies, prostitution and homosexuality. Such ungodly debauchery, every single day!

Before using the Word of God to cut and stab into the hearts of men and women as he warned them about the wrath of God, he had first given them hope. He had reached the negative side, but he had first given them the positive side––the message of the Gospel and all the wonderful possibilities that would happen when it entered into a person’s life.

What about people who work in cities in America? They have a secular job and find it is hard to be around people who are not controlled by the Holy Spirit. They enjoy what they do on the weekend; there is no shame. They brag about it during the week! They have no remorse, no repentance and no regret. They think they are going to get away with their sin.

If only people would read the book of Romans! It would bring fear of God’s judgment to their hearts. He made people aware and responsible for what they see and what they do. It should make people think twice, to get their life squared away, and take some time to rethink their philosophy of life, knowing that one day God will judge. No one gets away with what they think and what they have done.

If people really believed in judgment and hell, they would call on the name of Jesus for salvation and live cautiously, according to God’s Word.

The bow of God’s wrath is bent, and the arrow made ready on the string, and justice bends the arrow at your heart, and strains the bow, and it is nothing but the mere pleasure of God, and that of an angry God, without any promise or obligation at all, that keeps the arrow one moment from being made drunk with your blood.
