God is Rich in Mercy

But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus....
Ephesians 2:4-6

When God gets ahold of a person’s life, there is a change––a transformation. Now that the Holy Spirit dwells in their lives, they are automatically made spiritually alive. God has touched their lives. Their past life is dead––all their sinful practices, such as fornication, adultery, drugs alcohol, greed for power, and money. All these kinds of worldly lusts were in their hearts. These sins condemned them to an eternity without God. Then all of a sudden––hope–––but God!

Looking back at our past, we understand the incredible work God has done in delivering us from sin. Salvation is nothing we could accomplish on our own! God, because He is rich in mercy, saved us. He had a plan for our salvation before the foundation of the world. John 3:16 tells us: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

God loved us in times past, even when we were sinners and willfully disobeyed Him (Romans 5:8). In our present life, in Christ, we are so blessed! Christians can now live in the light, all because of God’s rich mercy, love and grace. Walking in the light is such a contrast to walking in the darkness. It is His light that shines in our hearts:

For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 4:6).

God has provided Christ so our sins can be forgiven. Spiritually speaking, we are spiritually resurrected to the heavenly places; that is our position in Christ––not condemned. God promises to continue to be with us even unto the very end: “I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20).

God leads us to eternal life not by our merits but according to his mercy.
