No Satisfaction

Then Samuel said to the people, “Do not fear. You have done all this wickedness; yet do not turn aside from following the Lord, but serve the Lord with all your heart. And do not turn aside; for then you would go after empty things which cannot profit or deliver, for they are nothing.”
1 Samuel 12:20-21

In the past, Moses had told Israel’s forefathers:“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength”(Deuteronomy 6:5).Now Samuel exhorted God’s people again. He reiterated God’s conditions for following Him––serve the Lord with all your heart and do not backslide. He warned Israel, if they decided to leave the Lord, they would go back to an emptiness of life, and nothing would satisfy them.

There are Christians who choose not to serve God with all their hearts; they serve the Lord only partially––not with all their heart, soul and strength. The problem today is many Christians are not totally sold out to serve the Lord. Instead, their hearts are divided, and they find themselves following after empty, vain things.

Understand, God never leaves us, but we leave Him for other things: our cars, our houses, our pets, drinking, drugs, or sex––these things will never satisfy us. God is the only One who can satisfy us.Could it be other things have taken first place in our lives?

If you have left God to seek and search after other things, you are going to become an empty person. People who search for other things become miserable. Apart from God, all other things are temporal––they will burn or take wings and fly away–– but the things of God endure forever.  So the only way to be happy, and joyous, is to be in the perfect will of God. God wants us to invest our lives in the kingdom of eternity.

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”
~Matthew 6:33~
