The Birds of the Air

“Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?”
Matthew 6:26-27

Jesus spoke again about the priorities of a child of God. People worry when they do not have material possessions. They panic, thinking, I do not have a house or job security. What am I going to do? I am going to be turning 65, and everything will be at a much higher price. Do not worry! If you are a child of God, He will take care of you! Has He ever failed you yet?

People often say, “I want” and “I need.” Women worry about having a dress for an event––men worry about their clothing, too! Yet they often have a whole closet of clothing! We tend to worry about unnecessary things. It is our nature to worry about everything in life. Jesus calmed our worries and reasoned with us, saying, “Are you not of more value than the birds of the air?” Seriously, when was the last time you grew eighteen inches during the night because of your worrying? The problem with people is their lack of faith––faith is the key factor to stop our worrying. I believe with all my heart, God will provide.

In fact, in John 15, Christians are told to abide day by day with Jesus, not month by month or year by year. Even though financially things may collapse, the Lord will take care of us. Honestly, we can only handle one day at a time, not tomorrow or ahead of us into the future. We would probably die of worry if we did! You see, every one of us in the future will go through suffering and tragedy––it will come––but if we have the right attitude, we shall be able to handle those things. As a believer grows spiritually as a child of God in His kingdom, they will learn Jesus will take care of them, one step at a time. He will bring peace into their lives.

“Care is injurious; but if you only turn this care into prayer, then every care will be a benefit to you.”
~C.H. Spurgeon~
