Undercover Military Operation
And Saul was sitting in the outskirts of Gibeah under a pomegranate tree which is in Migron. The people who were with him were about six hundred men. Ahijah the son of Ahitub, Ichabod’s brother, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eli, the Lord’s priest in Shiloh, was wearing an ephod. But the people did not know that Jonathan had gone.
1 Samuel 14:2-3
Jonathan was a very godly man; he was in tune with the Lord’s plans. God laid a mission on Jonathan’s heart; he was to go to the Philistine garrison and fight the enemy. Jonathan decided to go undercover and infiltrate behind enemy lines with his armorbearer. He chose not to tell anybody else about his mission. The King’s son had great faith in his God; he knew in his heart the Lord had called him to battle.
Jonathan had already seen God do an incredible work of victory when the Lord led him to fight against the Philistine garrison in Geba (1 Samuel 13:3). He was excited to see the Lord do another work of victory. Jonathan had proved himself in warfare to his men. His armorbearer was ready and willing to go to the battle with him (1 Samuel 14:1). There was complete unity between Jonathan and his armorbearer.
I believe with all my heart, the Lord was greatly working within the heart of Jonathan and the heart of his armorbearer. Here were two young warriors who had a strong commitment between each other. Jonathan and his armorbearer were zealous to fight for their country and for the kingdom of God––amazing!
Sometimes it is good to keep quiet about the mission God has placed on your heart to do. Follow God’s leading, and be excited to see what God can do through your life. When God calls you into a spiritual battle, it will become obvious to others that the Lord was the One who directed you.
Wherever you are, be all there! Live to the hilt every situation you believe to be the will of God!”
