Turning the Tables
Saul also sent messengers to David’s house to watch him and to kill him in the morning. And Michal, David’s wife, told him, saying, “If you do not save your life tonight, tomorrow you will be killed.” So Michal let David down through a window. And he went and fled and escaped.
1 Samuel 19:11-12
Saul was always looking for another opportunity to kill David. He still saw David as a threat because he knew God had chosen him to be the next King of Israel. David was blameless before God, and He was with him. Saul had been rejected by God, but he still fought to keep his position.
Michal, aware of the danger, warned David to escape. She knew her father’s servants were watching and waiting to kill him. She loved David and helped him in his timely escape. Yet God would turn the tables on Saul and use these difficulties for David’s good. He had allowed these circumstances and trials––Saul’s intense persecution––so that David could learn how to become a good leader and a king.
In the story of Esther, God turned the tables on Haman, the Agagite. Haman took offense when Mordecai failed to show him honor. Haman knew Mordecai was a Jew, and out of pure hatred, he decided to annihilate all Jews. He confidently built gallows to hang Mordecai. God used Esther to intercede for her people. Haman did not know she was a Jew. Soon the tables began to turn, and Haman was the one to hang on his own gallows! (Esther 3-7)
Listen, sometimes there are people whose hearts are devising wickedness and evilness against you. It could be they are jealous of what God is doing in your life. Understand, as they plan evil against you, God can turn the tables against them. God can turn evil for good.
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
