Bow Down and Worship

…Then all the people answered, “Amen, Amen!” while lifting up their hands. And they bowed their heads and worshiped the LORD with their faces to the ground. - Nehemiah 8:6

Notice how the people showed their devotion to God as they worshiped Him. They openly lifted up their hands in worship and waited upon the Lord to speak to them––incredible! Can you imagine all these people as they bowed their heads and worshiped with their faces to the ground? God was in their mist––this must have been such an awesome sight!

During the church service attention is given to worship. Why? Worship prepares the heart for the Word of God. We become in tune with how the Lord desires to speak to us. Interestingly, God has placed more emphasis on His Word than on worship. David, who worshiped the Lord from a youth reveals to us this truth in Psalm 138:2:

I will worship toward Your holy temple, and praise Your name For Your lovingkindness and Your truth; for You have magnified Your word above all Your name.

As a teaching ministry we give great attention to the Word of God. However, once a month we have our night of prayer and worship. It is a time when we can openly lift our hands to the Lord in complete surrender, uninhibited, as we worship Him. We should never sit in a worship service with our arms folded and not sing. Understand that as we enter into a time of sincere worship; our hands are open to receive from God.

When was the last time you came to church and worshipped the Lord in complete abandon?

Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the LORD our Maker. For He is our God, and we are the people of His pasture, and the sheep of His hand…
~Psalm 95:6-7~
