Faith in Jesus Christ

But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference….
Romans 3:21-22

Paul held the Jews fully responsible, because he taught them that once they knew the Law of God, then for the rest of their lives they would become guilty and responsible before God. The Jews had made many excuses. Yet on Mount Sinai, God gave the Law to Moses, and God gave the rights of circumcision to Abraham––the cutting away of the flesh.

Paul in the New Testament clarified that it was not just the cutting away of the flesh, but it was the cutting away of the sinful nature of people’s hearts: When you came to Christ, you were “circumcised,” but not by a physical procedure. Christ performed a spiritual circumcision--the cutting away of your sinful nature (Colossians 2:11 NLT).

Although the law makes people guilty, grace makes them righteous before God. As a person believes by faith in Jesus Christ for salvation, God can work in and through that person’s life. There are no rules or laws. Christians are justified by faith in Jesus Christ and have become a citizen of the kingdom of God. Christians truly walking with God are justified by faith through grace, and through Christ they are made righteous.

Understand, once people are exposed to the light of God’s Word, they are responsible for the rest of their lives; no matter what they do, they are responsible for their actions. Do you now understand what the Scriptures reveal about the law and grace of God?

“…by grace we are saved through faith; saved both from the guilt and from the power of sin.”
