Christ Alone

But David answered Rechab and Baanah his brother, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, and said to them, “As the Lord lives, who has redeemed my life from all adversity, when someone told me, saying, ‘Look, Saul is dead,’ thinking to have brought good news, I arrested him and had him executed in Ziklag—the one who thought I would give him a reward for his news. How much more, when wicked men have killed a righteous person in his own house on his bed? Therefore, shall I not now require his blood at your hand and remove you from the earth?” - >2 Samuel 4:9-11

Baanah and Rechab killed Ishbosheth and brought his head to David, telling him the Lord had avenged him on the house of Saul. What was David’s reaction? Was he thankful for the help? No, he reacted just as he did with the Amalekite who came and said he killed Saul.

He pronounced judgment on the men. The blood of an innocent man would be redeemed by their death. They thought they would be praised for helping David, but they were condemned to death. Instead of rewards, they were ruined.

Notice, David did not need their help. His protector was the Lord! He said, “As the Lord lives, who has redeemed my life from all adversity …” David did not look to men to protect him. He knew his help came from the Lord. God had anointed him and He would deliver him from all his enemies.

I love to see the great faith and trust David had in the Lord. This is how I live my life. God is my defender; I do not need anyone else to come to my defense, only God! My faith and trust is in Christ alone!

A clear faith should produce a light heart.
