Religious Blind Guides
…and are confident that you yourself [the Jews] are a guide to the blind, a light to those who are in darkness, an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, having the form of knowledge and truth in the law.
Romans 2:19-20
Paul’s words were like a slap in the face to these Jews. They needed to wake up! They thought they could lead and guide people to truth through the law, but they were in spiritual darkness themselves. The Jews knew the law, but they did not know the truth of God. They thought they could save other people, but they were blind guides, leading people into darkness and going nowhere!
The Apostle Paul really rebuked the Jews as he made an attempt to correct their thinking. They had read the Word of God, but they had no real understanding of it. Seriously, there has to be illumination, inspiration and revelation when reading the Bible. The natural man, a person not born again of God’s Holy Spirit, does not understand the Scriptures:
But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned (1 Corinthians 2:14).
The Bible is just a common book to those who lack the Spirit of God working in their lives. Jesus told His disciples that the Holy Spirit would give a believer in Christ spiritual understanding:
“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you” (John 14:26).
Think of people who have a Bible in their home, but it is hardly ever opened. The truth of God is hidden in its pages! All you have to do is study it and accept the message of the Gospel to be set free. Yet people will die in their sins with their Bibles unread, just collecting dust on shelves in their homes.
The Bible is a supernatural book and can be understood by supernatural aid.
