Consider What You Ask God For?

And Samuel heard all the words of the people, and he repeated them in the hearing of the Lord. So the Lord said to Samuel, “Heed their voice, and make them a king.” And Samuel said to the men of Israel, “Every man go to his city.”
1 Samuel 8:21-22

The people of Israel rejected God as their King and were determined to have a king like the other nations. At this point, the decision was made. God told Samuel to give them a king. He had warned Israel and given them the opportunity to repent, but they refused to listen. Now Israel would get their king, and they would suffer the tremendous consequences.

In Israel’s past, in the wilderness, there was another situation where they made a request to God. The mixed multitude complained about the manna––bread from heaven––and they were not satisfied with God’s divine provision. They wanted to satisfy their lust for meat. In Numbers 11:18-20, Moses told them:

“…you shall eat meat; for you have wept in the hearing of the Lord, saying, “Who will give us meat to eat? For it was well with us in Egypt.” Therefore the Lord will give you meat, and you shall eat. You shall eat, not one day, nor two days, nor five days, nor ten days, nor twenty days, but for a whole month, until it comes out of your nostrils and becomes loathsome to you, because you have despised the Lord who is among you, and have wept before Him, saying, “Why did we ever come up out of Egypt?”

Do you ever consider what you ask God for? Sometimes what you ask for is not good for you. Even when God gives you the answer of no, you sometimes persist in your request and do not heed what God is trying to warn you about. Seriously, you need to hear the voice of God. What you are asking for could become a snare to your life. After careful consideration, perhaps you can let go of your request and be satisfied with His answer––no!

He gave them [Israel]their request, but sent leanness into their soul.
