One of the King’s Sons

Then Ziba said to the king, “According to all that my lord the king has commanded his servant, so will your servant do.” “As for Mephibosheth,” said the king, “he shall eat at my table like one of the kings sons.”  Mephibosheth had a young son whose name was Micha. And all those who dwelt in the house of Ziba were servants of Mephibosheth. So Mephibosheth dwelt in Jerusalem, for he ate continually at the king’s table. And he was lame in both his feet. - 2 Samuel 9:11-13

Notice how beautiful this is, Mephibosheth, now dwelt in Jerusalem. He ate at the King David’s table like one of his sons. This would continue throughout his lifetime. He would be continually blessed with God’s abundant provision, as a member of David’s family.

When we repent of our sins, no matter what we did in the past, God accepts us and treats us like His sons and daughters.  Second Corinthians 6:18 tells us: “I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, says the LORD Almighty.” We become part of the family of God.

As one of His children, we can look forward to when we too will eat at the King’s table. Revelation 19:9 says: Then he said to me, “Write: ‘Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!’”  Imagine, only those written in the Lamb’s Book of Life will be able to continually dwell with Him in the New Jerusalem for all eternity (Revelation 21:22-26).

But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.
